How we got started...

Having both recently passed the MRCS there are certain things we would have changed about the way in which we revised. We noticed that we spent a lot of time on the anatomy section, mainly because we were unsure of the depth of knowledge required. In hindsight, we could have used our time more effectively by focusing on the key areas. We planned this course as we think that at around exam time, time is of the essence. Revision must be well organised and geared towards high yield areas. Anatomy is integral to surgical practice and it is important to have a good breadth of knowledge not only for the exam but also for operating and it is therefore worth revising well. This course aims to achieve a level of knowledge above that required just to pass the exam.

This is a course for everyone. If you think that your anatomy is a strength then we will efficiently consolidate your knowledge. If you feel anatomy is a weakness then we will show you the areas that working on will be the most beneficial. At whatever level you are at the viva practice and one-to-one personal feedback will be extremely useful and help to guide your study after the course.

Feedback from previous students has been excellent, especially in relation to the level of teaching by the faculty. In addition, the intense and broad exposure to cadaveric specimens (which you will definitely meet in the exam) was an aspect that everyone felt helped to give their revision that extra boost.

We made a conscious effort to revise our anatomy from the cadavers rather than just using books. As one of us is an ex-demonstrator we were helped by the fact that we had access to the dissection room and got viva practice from anatomists and clinicians that have been MRCS examiners. This was the most useful part of our revision and it is the essence of the course.

"Learn the body and not the book".
